May’s Fall Champion Hero is Gerson Morales, a CNA at HumanGood White Sands La Jolla, who is not only doing an outstanding job supporting residents in memory care and following fall response and prevention protocols, but also studying to be a physician. His nominator, Deeanna Lyons, Memory Support Director, says, “Gerson is a CNA I wish I could clone. The compassion and integrity he shows our residents are top notch!” We couldn’t agree more, as Deeanna shared that after a resident fall, Gerson pretended to sleep on the couch in the resident’s room to help alleviate their anxiety about being alone and keep them from getting out of bed, risking another fall. He said goodnight to the resident and tucked them in, pretended to lay on the couch, and then crawled out of the room on his hands and knees. Deeanna remarks, “What a true HERO!”
